Smart Card System

Izmir University of Economics Smart Card System has gone into effect in 2007. Currently 7000 users benefit from this service.

Smart Card system hardware is configured to integrate with the existing campus network as IP based, and uninterrupted and reliable operation is provided.

Smart Card system is used in 3 services mainly:

1.)Controlled access systems
2.)Dining
3.)Payments, Expenses

1. Controlled access systems

Entering and exiting the campus is carried out by the University ID card (EkoKart). These smart cards, which display picture and personal info of the holder, use Mifare technology. The cards, which are being used by students and the entire personnel, are produced at Card Processing Centre within the Systems and Operations Department.

There are total of 13 turnstiles at 3 main access points at the University. 13 terminal devices are being used in all turnstiles and gates.

In addition to turnstiles, barrier system is available at 3 different points where vehicles enter and exit. 2 of them are integrated into the system and the transitions in vehicle entry and exit transactions can be made by scanning the card. Smart cards are also used at 15 doors (laboratories, classrooms, studios, etc.) at Faculty of Arts and Science building. All transits can be reported.

2. Dining

The University personnel are able to eat at restaurants, cafeterias, and cafes on campus by using their (automatically preloaded) cards at POS machines. This prevents having to deal with lunch tickets, and saves workforce. The dining amount loaded on the card is valid only for the same day and not transferred to the next day.

3. Payments, Expenses

Students can use their cards to pay for some of the services being offered to them on campus (print-outs, transcripts, late fees on books, etc.). Students need to apply to Financial Affairs Directorate to get their cards loaded with the amount they wish. Then they can use their cards wherever POS machines are available to make their expenses.

The ieucloud system is a cloud-based storage area that Administrative-Academic staff can use. By default you will have 5GB of storage. For example, while we cannot send a file with a file size of 1GB via e-mail, we can upload our file and share a link to the other party thanks to the ieucloud storage area.
